Contest for Website Promotion

Posted by Adi Wong On September - 12 - 2007

There is a lot of blog contest going on everyday if you search around. You would actually get the gadget practically free, and yes, usually there is a catch.

What is the catch?
This is a part of their Internet Marketing strategy for their website. In return for the prize, they are always trying to get more visitor, exposure or readers to their website/blog.

Prize
I think the most common prize is usually gadgets or cash. If you can think of a brilliant prize, it could be cheap and everyone may be fighting for it as well. I believe that some of the eBooks will definately get some crowd.

If you own a blog, it is painless to write a post to promote them. Although the chances of wining a contest is actually low, once won, you will actually receives a link and the prize!

I may have some plans to have a contest for my malaysia classifieds website in order to get more crowd. It will definately be limited to Malaysian blogs but if it turn out well, there is good chance that I will do that with Rice Blogger.

Back from my Indonesia trip

Posted by Adi Wong On September - 10 - 2007

Although the trip is mostly laid back and catching up with my in-laws. I notice that Indonesia is a far different country from Malaysia although they are just next door. Marketing in Indonesia is very different and I would say that they are pretty aggressive with promotions and advertising.

Cigarettes company is one of the largest advertiser for the whole country, you will see billboards, tv ads, bus ads and much more advertisements in Indonesia by Cigarettes, but carry little meaning (I don’t even get some of the ads). Other than that you could see credit cards advertisements providing upto 50% discount for dining at well known places such as Hard Rock Cafe, Tony Romas, Din Dai Fung (some place I went for siew long pow), movies, Krispie Kreme and much more.

It is a healthy market when all company is competing in such ways, as both consumer and competitive company will do well. Unlike market in Malaysia, it is mostly monopoly having one largest telecommunication (land lines), one broadband provider, one energy provider, and one geographical water supply does not allow competition therefore effectiveness of their is always doubtful.

Anyway, I have a lot to catch up since I have lost 10 days.
