Posted by Adi Wong On November - 30 - 2007

How many of you out there own a GPS phone? N95? I believe that there is little in Malaysia.

Google just release their Google Map for Mobile User. Although Google Map is not quite useful in Malaysia, Hanson Toh, represents Google in Malaysia, mentioned during the Webmaster Gathering at KL Sentral that Road map will be update and we will be able to get direction with specific road.

With the ability to use mobile phone to access this map, it would be hassle free and map will be access on needed basis only. This application is optimize into a pretty wide variety of platform

  1. J2ME
  2. Blackbery
  3. Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0 abobe
  4. Symbian Series 60 3rd edition
  5. Palm OS and OS 5

I believe this is practically most of the phone out there. Can’t wait for malaysia road to be listed on Google Map.

Adding sociable on your feed

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 27 - 2007

Previously I mentioned how you could add sociable to your blog post by hard coding it onto your theme and how WP-©Feed will prevent people from stealing your blog post as theirs. There is more to WP-Feed as you could add sociable and related post onto your feed. It will be important to promote to those who read your blog via rss feed reader only.

This two feature will make your feed more interesting as the normal feed only include text and pictures, adding some sociable and related post feature will actually get more visitor to your blog.

It is pretty easy, all you have to do is just copy the sociable code and past it right before <small>. And the result will look like this

As for the related post feature, it is already built in with the plugin. All you do is check the checkbox and change the subject you would like to put for Related Post.

Do not steal riceblogger dot com Feed!

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 22 - 2007

I never really thought that someone would actually start to steal my feed since my blog is very new. Unfortunately, it is too easy to do that. All you need is to buy a domain, hosting fee, install wordpress and a feed aggregator plugin.

Personally I have talked to few webmaster during the Malaysia Webmaster Gathering and bloggers are facing such an issue. The solution that I could think of is to have a copyright on your feeds. Today, I installed WP-©Feed and still trying on the function.

This wordpress plugin allow me to add a footer on every single post in my feed. I am even allow to add html code into the footer. This means that I am able to add sociable inside my feed as well. I will try it out and update you guys later.

The previous of my feed will look like this

The real RealRank by IZEA

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 21 - 2007

It seems that previous post about RealRanker is actually not officially by IZEA. IZEA is actually starting their own RealRank to support PayPerPost as previouly post requirements are dependent on Alexa and Google’s PageRank. You could read more about it from IZEA blog.

There is a code needed to be installed in your website in order to get a ranking between 1 to 9, and advertiser could actually vote as well.

Previously IZEA Real Rank is based on:-

70% weighted towards visitors per day
20% weighted towards amount of ACTIVE inbound links per day
10% weighted towards pageviews per day

With this previous formula. I actually see that it would not work because visitors mostly comes from Google and other search engine (at least for mine). If PageRank drops, ranking drops, then it gets harder for visitor to find your website. The other 10% of pageviews is also directly/indirectly related to Google PageRank.

The moral of the story is not to mess with the big G.

Black Friday Special

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 20 - 2007

Black friday is one of the day I missed the most as a student studying in United States. It is the day after Thanksgiving, which is this Friday. Black friday is basically a shopping day whereby we start lining up in front of the stores a 3am for the store to open. Most major electronic stores, including Best Buy, Circuit City, Staples, Office Depot, Walmart and much more are all on sale. Some electronics are limited to 50 people, therefore we are there to grab the best stuff at the lowest price. Even after that, you could sell them at eBay and earn some money.

United States buying habbit is different from Malaysia. We have the mail in rebate discount (by manufacturer and retailler), whereby we cut of the bar code from the box and mail them back to manufacturer or retailler, after around 3 months we will receives a check.

Best stuff I have get is some free CD-R Disk after mail in rebate, USB Thumb Drive and Network card.

There is a trick to this Black Friday which I tend to learn, you will have to get the list of discount you would want to buy before the stores open, as you could only be at one location at one time (unless you have them plan with your friends). Go to the store with the item on your highest priority and continue down.

I manage to buy something even before going out of my appartment, I buy them online after 12am and use some coupon code. It makes them even cheaper compare to buying online. FatWallet is the best source to get coupon code and stack them to get even bigger discount.

A list of discount for your to prepare yourself for Black Friday Discount stores:-

Also, I heard from a friend that things had change, shop starts to open at 12am. This will change the buying habit of people, people would not need to hang out in the cold night outside the store.

Happy Shopping!
