Writing Blog Offline

Posted by Adi Wong On December - 28 - 2007

I am currently using Wondiws Live Writer to write this blog post while waiting for my Workers to do x-ray in the Hospital. Writing a blog post online could be though but it would be much easier if you had the right software and even better if your had Internet connection at the place while you are waiting.

The reason that it is hard to write a blog post offline is because you are unable to do any research or refer to anything at all. The only thing you have is only your brain and the word processor (which I am using Windows Live Writer).

I tried installing Google Gear so that my Google feed could be read offline. But after reaching here, I notice that I am unable to load the url, http://reader.google.com at all. I will need to look this up when I am online again.

Reminder!

Posted by Adi Wong On December - 26 - 2007

Do you have any problem organizing your appointments and time? Having a helpful reminder is a very nice feature, our hand phone reminder is one of the very useful feature if you know how to use it. The only set back is that you are unable to write reminder quickly using the keypad unless you have a Palm, Pocket PC or iPhone.

Here is a tips on how you could do it with Google Calendar. The first and only most important feature for your to know is that Google Calendar actually sents SMS to your phone if you set a reminder there.

All you have to do is to activate your handphone and you will receive a code shortly to confirm your phone number. Then, just fill it up with your activities and appointments. The best thing about this feature is that you do not pay a single cent for the SMS, and I hope it will maintain the same for the future.

Shylock Adsense Plugin

Posted by Adi Wong On December - 24 - 2007

This is a great plugin that will increase your revenue. I tend not to use Adsense Deluxe alone because it is hard to monitor each and every post. Previously I had installed MightyAdsense and Adsense Deluxe. MightyAdsense plugin is great because you could align at the advertisements to be at top-left or top-right, and text will be wrapping around the adsense rectangular. Rather than controling where you want your advertisements, MightyAdsense will standardize the advertisements format in your post, pages and front page.

Shylock Adsense Plugin is a better version of MightyAdsense. It allows you to add a total of 3 advertisements block in the pages and post to maximize Adsense maximum of 3 blocks. Another great feature is whereby you could increase the number of advertisements on post older than X amount of days (where X is the days you set).

Currently I have it in 7 days, and if you see post older than 7 days, you will be able to see slightly more advertisements. The reason why you want to do that because most people who visit your blog daily will be unhappy to see a lot of advertisements showing on their screen. But for those who found your individual post through a search engine, they are there for information, and they would not mind the extra advertisements as their loyalty is much lower.

Website Promotion Tricks

Posted by Adi Wong On December - 21 - 2007

There is a couple of tricks I used when promoting my website. I learn from zero, without attending any class or seminars about making money online. Therefore, I started using trial and error. Some of the promotion tricks still seems to work as I am getting quite a constant visitor to my latest website creation, Malaysian Food Review website.

Here is some of the tricks to promote your website:-

Social Community Websites – Social community is a great place to promote your website especially to your friends if you do not want to sound desperate to get user to your website. With the features in Facebook group, you are actually able to add your website to the relevent group. Also, by adding more friends such as blogger friends, or internet friends, your message will be heard by more people.

Directory – Adding your website into directory is a process which you are not able to see instant result, but it is for long term. Currently, there is differences in paid and free directory, because Google weight more for paid directory rather than free directory. The reason why directory is good for search engine purposes. Rather than getting links from other (which you have no control of), you pay directory owner to provide you a link. It will help in Search Engine Optimization.

Email List – Having a email list is pretty good, but it should be targeted. Getting a profile of what your reader age range, location, similar interest or other websites they usually visit will generate an succesful result. You can’t just SPAM everyone by buying an email list as you will reach an untargeted result, and the same time risking your domain to be in the SPAM list.

Paid Ads – I have tried paid adword sand it seems that result are not quite succesful. This may not be the same for all website. The reason why I sait it was unsuccesful is because the traffic brought to my website was low and I am just promoting my website without any products. Therefore, it is hard to measure how succesful the campaign was.

Commenting on Blogs – Commenting on blogs will no doubt get you some visitor although most blogs are with “nofollow” link. There is visitor who will still click on your link, what I recommend is that you stay consistant to few blogs which you love to read them daily / constantly. A plus advantage is when the blogs have top commentators plugin, the same amount of work would get you a little further.

Link exchange service - although some service like BlogRush may not call them link exchange, it is kinda like link exchange or you could call them traffic exchange website. Link exchange is not advisable by Google as far as I know. Unless you use services like Blogrush which have no affect on Search Engine Ranking as it is using flash and it does not pass Pagerank, only traffic is passed on.

Banner ads – I recently accepted some banner ads in one of my website and it seems to be getting a very good response. I have included one of my very own website in the banner and the conversion is high, well worth your money if you like to advertise on my Malaysia Classifieds. Only 1 spots left as of today.

Other service that are yet to try:-

Writing article – Some website allow you to write article, and if you write an article that is closely related to your website, your link in that article will be useful for both search engine and traffic.

YouTube promotion or other Video Promotion- You could promote your website by having some great video on YouTube. Have a watermark on video and it is a great way to have free ads to your website.

Buying ReviewMe – It is costly to buy at some high traffic blog such as JohnChow but getting the right price for the right amount of exposure may be the right promotion for your website.
