Open Source Script

Posted by Adi Wong On March - 17 - 2008

There are so many open source script out there and I was doing a test on my hosting account. There are tons of place to find new scripts but Open Source CMS is one of my favorite. Since it is open source, Open Source CMS could provide a demo for most of the scripts, which save you the hassle of downloading it and uploading it, but definitely there is some limitation as you can’t alter the codes. Getting to know scripts outside the market would actually give you ideas on how some website are made.

opcms.jpg For example, WordPress a blogging script could actually be used as a article publishing website, or a directory, or also a classifieds. If  you know what plugin and how to alter the themes, WordPress would actually do a better directory or classifieds script because of its SEO friendlyness. Plus, you could promote using technorati and other blog aggregator services.

I have recently play around with a few scripts and made a new website. It is a simple website using a open source script. All there is to lose is my USD7.99/year domain. Hoping that the website will make more than that.

Also, another great place to find for scripts is HotScripts, although it does have commercial script, some of them is really cheap and may be useful program if you have an idea that needs the features. HotScripts also shows the latest script added by day, categorized by script programming languages. So far, I did not manage to find anything interesting, but the right script at the right time could actually make you some money online.

Search Engine 2.0

Searchme is a visual search engine. A screenshot of the related link will be preview on searchme. It seems to be a great idea bringing search engine to the next level, but I am sure searchme is bandwidth hungry search engine. Therefore dial-up or slower speed internet connection will be having some problem to load this website.

The good thing is that this looks more like a search engine for this web2.0 era. Take a look at their introduction:-

I have subscribe to their beta testing.

Poodz – Another Micro Blogging Platform

Poodz seems like another Micro Blogging Platform just like Twitter, Jaiku or Pownce. There is too many in the market and Twitter seems to be doing the best so far. The only difference so far I could see is that Poodz offer an email which we could MMS video, sound and text through it. Poodz is mostly flooded with French user, therefore, it may take some time for you to find some friends who speaks in English.

Currently, Poodz does not have feed importing feature but you could import all your twit msg from Twitter by providing them your username and password (let me think twice). But Poodz have their own API for developers, if there is supporters, they should have their feed importer pretty fast.

Although I prefer Jaiku, I am starting to use Twitter much more because of there are more and more developers for new functions with Twitter. Since I could add my website to it, it provides me another link back to this blog. Anyway here is all my microblogging profile. Add me:-

Real Feedburner Stats

Posted by Adi Wong On March - 10 - 2008

You may find some blogs showing a very big amount of feed subscriber. A fake Feedburner animated image could be easily done to show that your blog has a lot of listener. Or a much simpler way is that, you actually use this feed image which I capture from Problogger.

It is very tempting to use a fake feedburner stats because you are expecting others to subscribe to your stats when they see such a high followers, but keep in mind that it has a downside when people found out about your blog, you will lose credibility.

To reveal the real stats, it only take you a simple step of adding some letters into the feed url. For example, lets take AdesBlog.com as an example.

Blogging from DU Starbucks

Posted by Adi Wong On March - 8 - 2008

To be honest, this is my very first time bring my laptop and blogging outside my normal workspace at home or at my office. I think the environment here is pretty good for me to spend some time on my blog because my laptop does not have any games and even so, the connection here will not be stable enough for online gaming purposes. Since internet here is free, all I need is to buy a cup of their drinks, not a bad deal.

Here is a picture from my Motorola KRZR.

I have been going to some seminar about harmonization of medical device standards for three days at Sunway Hotel, which explain why I am out of the action for 3 days. But after the seminar, I manage to take a walk at Sunway Pyramid Shopping mall and guess what, I got myself a little new gadget. It is a business card scanner, and it may not be useful for everyone, but I could use them at my daily job and also keeping emails for website promotional purposes.
