Wireless Shah Alam

Posted by Adi Wong On August - 16 - 2008

It is now 9.05 am at SECC Mall in Shah Alam. I had to be here to drop my wife for some cooking lesson. The mall is closed but some shops are open. Fortunately, I am able to have wireless internet access because of this new Wireless Shah Alam project. This free Shah Alam Broadband will be available only until end of August, lucky me, after that some fee will be charged.

But the weird thing that I would ask is why Shah Alam, I would not have know about this if not because of the cooking class. I would actually choose places like Damansara, Kuala Lumpur or Sunway that have a lot of middle class and students in one small area. Each login is 30 minutes, therefore excessive ussage like games and downloads will not work.

More detail I digged up from TheStar here.

Feeds with Adsense

Posted by Adi Wong On August - 15 - 2008

I just notice this is available at my account today. a lot of people are already monetizing their feeds because it is an untapped market. Some feed reader do not actually visit your website because full feed is published. With the ability to have Adsense embeded together with your feeds would be a great method to increase your profit.

All I did is to link my account at Feedberner and my Adsense Account. You will have to do this manually.

To migrate all of your feeds, and your account from feeds.feedburner.com to Google, please contact us at adsense-support-aff@google.com and provide the following information:

  • Your FeedBurner account username
  • The Google Account email address you use to sign in to AdSense

We will migrate your account and contact you with specific steps for you to follow once migration is complete.

Another method is that you could opt to burn a new feed, which is basically start a new feed that will have advertisements embeded. This would be troublesome because all your feedburner user will have to switch.

I belief you will still have to activate them from Feedburner.

I am still waiting to migrate my account. Will update once I see my adsense for feeds.

No more SMS from Twitter

Posted by Adi Wong On August - 14 - 2008

I do not receive any SMS from Twitter because it is quite irritating and at the same time, because of difference in time zone I got updates in the middle of the night. But I do send update my Twitter account from my mobile to +44 762 480 1423.

But I though of a way to benefit from using Twitter free SMS because if your group of friends all subscribe to one twitter account. Indirectly, sending one sms would spread the message to all your friends. You send one SMS instead of 10 or 20 of your friends. Then another benefit is that you will not miss any friends.

Too bad this service is no longer available here in Malaysia and majority of the countries worldwide except USA, Canada and India.

Qlubb – Create your own Social Networking Group

Posted by Adi Wong On August - 12 - 2008

If your Ning social networking group name is taken, it would be good to quickly grab your club (Qlubb) name.  Qlubb is fairly new because I am able to get webmaster.qlubb.com. Join me Qlubb when you are registered.

The registration is simply painless as there is no captcha or email confirmation. Their slogan “Your Group ….Even Easier” really take its stand.

But it is weird that you are forced to register for a group. This is simply wrong because people will eventually need to simply register a group when all they are interested is to join a Qlubb (group). Anyway, the interface is nicer and cleaner compare to Ning.

The function available is quite limited to the following:-

  1. Message Board
  2. Schedule
  3. Member List
  4. Picture Sharing
  5. Shoutbox (blurbs)

I look forward for more feature but at the meantime, you could start registering for your own social networking group.

Reminder Tool

Posted by Adi Wong On August - 7 - 2008

I think everyone could use a reminder tool on their email. Sometimes I tend to email a link back to myself just for the sake of reminding me to see the information at later times. Email future is providing this service for free, and I believe with “Public Messages”, you will be able to send to a list friends at a specific time.

The process is simple because there is no registration involved. It is very direct, you land on the website, type your email and do your schedule all in one page.
