Power of Internet Marketing

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 27 - 2008

This is an interesting topic about Internet Marketing. I am always fascinated about the power of Internet marketing because we use Internet so much that anything that we do not understand, we tend to search for it (at least for me).

I started this topic because I wrote a post about a clinic here in Klang, Malaysia in another blog. This is a post that I complaint about the unprofessional service that I have receives from the clinic. Yes, I was pissed and did not know where should I voice my complaint, therefore I decided to just post it just to take out my anger.

Never did I know, this post is now ranked 1st for the keyword “dr alice” or “dr. alice” for Google Malaysia and 3rd for Google.com for Malaysia searches.

Because the post is up it started a snowball, people elsewhere started to come to my blog and comment about Dr. Alice, mostly unprofessional stuff. And at the same timeĀ  someone representing her/might be herself is coming to my blog and emailing me to remove the post and offering me an apology letter from her.

The truth is that I have no intention of hiding the truth about my posting, and I have emailed her about the post when she replied with a standard email template. She would not have care about my blog if it did not reach such a high placing for her name.

My post will definitely stay. But I would like to know if I should remove those comments that actually have no proves/evidence?

Should I remove anything from my previous post?

Looking for VPS or Semi-Dedicated Hosting

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 26 - 2008

I am now desperately looking for VPS or Semi-Dedicated server to host some of my websites because my Malaysia Webhosting company, Exabytes said that my website is taking up too much CPU resources. Their customer support emailed me yesterday. I will need upgrade to a semi-dedicated server or a dedicated server, but it is way above my budget. Previously I am only paying like RM200+ a year to host with them, but now it cost me RM209/month (if I paid in advance for 2 years).

There is some difference in VPS and Semi-Dedicated Server but I am hoping that I could get a VPS at a reasonable price, so that I am able to try out different background processor script, but I have no idea what I can do with it too.

My website is currently only using 25GB of its assigned 50GB bandwidth of shared hosting, but unfortunately CPU ussage is too large. I guess it is pretty impossible for a share hosting to reach 50GB bandwidth. Therefore 50GB of bandwidth would be sufficient with 1GB of diskspace (which I am currently using less than 500mb).

I have no experience and have not much idea about VPS and Semi-Dedicated Hosting. If anyone of you guys have some idea about good VPS or Semi-Dedicated Server at a reasonable price, please let me know. My website is mainly targeted for Malaysia Traffic, therefore, I will hope that it is loading quickly for people here.

Currently in my list of is Shinjiru (loads very quickly for Malaysian but website speed test is quite slow from US) and JaguarPC (loads slower for Malaysia Website but speed test is fast from US). Any other suggestion will be much appreciated.

Blogging Tips to Great Post

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 25 - 2008

I think everyone in the blogging community is finding for ways and idea to write the few great post I have mentioned in my previous post. I am also doing the same as much as all bloggers out there are trying to do. There are few great places whereby you could look for an answer or look for inspiration to write about a topic.

Digg
If your post is good, you will be digg (this is a easier way of thinking). Therefore, you should take a look at the method a blog post/article is written. Especially those on the front page of various category. This would only generate short term traffic, but you should know that it also provide you a link back to your homepage. If you are able to convert like 1% of the traffic to subscribe to your rss feeds or bookmark your blog to be return in the future, you are doing great.

Of course there is other website like Reddit, Propeller, Delicious and much more.

Forums
I tend to visit DigitalPoint to know what are people looking at. It is base on the simple supply and demand theory, if there is demand for certain knowledge and you could supply, you will get some traffic. There are a lot of great forums depending on what topic you are writing about. If you are blogging about parenting, you could visit some parenting forum to know what are others interested at.

RSS Feeds
This is my Google Reader or your Feed reader. It is very much advisable to keep track of those who are doing well. There must be certain things that they have done correctly to get a great deal of visitors. You could also visit their archive to see how they continuously able to keep their visitor coming back and why they are gaining visitor throughout time.

Ebook/Book/Reading
I know most of you out there may not be an expert at what you are blogging about. I myself is learning about blogging each day. This is why I blog, so that I can keep track of what I have learn and share with others. Updating yourself with the correct knowledge will give you an upperhand compare to other bloggers, as you will be able to write better and more confidently.

Be Creative
Being first to write about certain information will always give you a competitive edge in terms of readership and of course search engine ranking. Therefore those blogger that knows how to write creatively, not necessary writing from their own knowledge, but they could also compile all necessary useful information around the web as a one-stop information about a particular topic.

Gmail Theme

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 23 - 2008

The Google’s Gmail team have just introduce a new feature on gmail, which is the option to choose between different theme. It is a cool little function whereby you do not have to look at the same old boring template all day long if you are using Gmail as your daily email for business and personal.

Some theme like Beach and Summer Ocean, that will show a different theme during the day and night. Provided that you have set your location correctly for the correct timing.

Below are two of 31 themes you could choose from.

It is not a big thing, but just fun to change the theme around.

Few Great Posts

Posted by Adi Wong On November - 18 - 2008

I am still here! There is a lot going with my life currently with a new job and 1-half month old daughter, I am still trying to catch my breath. Hopefully things will stabilized. Back to my topic about “Few Great Post”. I had nearly gave up on blogging for money because I barely earn any money from blogging even though I have been blogging for quite some time. Although the plan is not to give up entirely but to only blog for fun and not committed to blogging frequently to maintained a good readership.

I was wrong, because I have found out that you only require a few great post and once you get them. It will give you a huge boost in your income and your readership. But because posts are easily copied, you will need a good readership in order to give your good post a boost. Then you will have a great path in front of you.

Great posts are not easy to write and will need a great deal of creativity with vision about what people are interested at. You could write a post before people starts to searh for a certain topic, for example writing about “facebook template” if you have news about this ahead of most people. Once the news break, I am sure that your blog will be a huge hit, and you get a search engine advantage because it is posted earlier.
