I went to Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) at TheMall, Kuala Lumpur yesterday for a business registration and it is actually pretty simple and you do not have to go through any agent in order to get your business registered. The only downside is the amount of time needed, but I think it is okay. SSM is located at 2nd floor of TheMall, you will see agents trying to sell you company registration services in front of SSM.
Business registration is not the same as company registration (Sdn Bhd), business regisration are names like Ah Huat Enterprise, Knowledge Tree Resources, or Metal Trader (notice that there is no Sdn / Sdn Bhd behind). Note that foreigner will not be allowed to register a Malaysia business registration, but company registration will be allowed.
Here is the steps to register your very own Malaysia business registration.
- Bring a photostat copy of your Identity Card.
- Line up for a form.
- Fill up the form completely, if you have problem, refer to the wall, they have samples. (you will need to provide 3 different business names. Easiest way is to search for the business name availability online.
- Line up again in the same counter to pass them your form and IC copy, they will provide you with a number.
- Wait comfortably in the seat provided as they search for your company availability. The number will not go in order because if they found your names available, your number will be call.
- Pay RM10 for business name search, RM60 for business registration for 1 year (upto 5 years allowed). You could also renew online at SSM.
- And wait 1 hour for your certificate to come out.
I arrived there at about 11.15am, steps 1 to 6 takes me about 1 hour. Then went for lunch and head back after 1 hour. Because of lunch clashes of the staff, I took it at around 1.30pm.
Overall, I am glad that I did not go through any agent because it is pretty simple and I heard that they will charge around RM200+ for a business registration. I guess it is because of the hassle previously, but now they are much more effective and everything is done at that moment.
I am not sure about Malaysia Company Registration, it is different, therefore you should check with their website or call them and ask about it.
