You definitely know Google, Yahoo!, MSN and Ask for search engine. But have you heard of Sproose? Sproose is basically a search engine which compile result from other search engine (Yahoo!, MSN and Ask) and also have its own spider to crawl on websites.

Sproose have a unique feature which differentiate itself from other search engine. The search engine ranking is a result of users voting. It works basically like Digg but Sproose uses websites rather than blog post.

This idea could be manipulated but it is quite a good idea to have user voting system. Google also has them if you have installed the Google toolbar on your browser. There will be a smiley face and a frown face, but I doubt that it officially changes anything of the search engine result.
