You can have as well as 5000 visitors and still make only a few bucks out of AdSense. AdSense earnings are influenced by type of traffic you get and what niche you're targeting. Ad placement, keyword targeting, organic visitors ( the ones that come from SE are more likely to click on an ad ), GEOIP targeting and last but not least, the types of ads you're using - these are the things that affect your AdSense earnings.
