Google have made it firm and clear that anyone that sells text link for the sake of manipulating search result will be penalize by having their PageRank (PR) deducted. Most of the bloggers who sold text link have their PR dropped by 2. Although there is some who faced much higher penalty on their PR.
I have blogged about ways that you may save your PR and it did work for me. My Malaysia Property website dropped to a low PR 2 for selling text links. At the start of this month, after my payment (of course
), I request for cancellation from text link ads and request reconsideration through Google Webmasters Tools.
The process was pretty simple. All I have done is deleted TLA and request that my account be closed (by contacting them, don’t know what there is no better way to like delete account). Then login to my Google Webmasters Tools and requst reconsideration. The next day, I got this
November 2, 2007 We’ve received a request from a site owner to reconsider the following site for inclusion in our index: http://www.syiok.com/
We’ll review the site. If we find that it’s no longer in violation of our Webmaster Guidelines, we’ll reinclude the site in our index. Please allow several weeks for the reconsideration request. We do review all requests, but unfortunately we can’t reply individually to each request.
As of today, a week after submission, I got back my PageRank of 3 from PageRank 2. It is not a big jump, but it shows that it worked. Which may be important for some people.

I’m not appealing because my former pr 5 but now pr1 blog still making me about 300 USD per month from Linktext and LinkAds
So far, they have not pulled out from my blog even if it is a 1 now. But sadly, no more Linkpost coming. Until the day they all pull out and I don’t make anymore money, I won’t be taking them down just to get back that stupid ranking.
Even if I get back that PR 5, but not allowed to make any money from it, what is the use of the 5 then?
Ah Pek: Thanks for dropping by. I am afraid that it will be a matter of time advertiser pull out when they know.
I did that to my website because it is having very competitive keyword, and I am scared that the ranking will drop
I agree with Ah Pek, PR is just nothing if we don’t monetise it. Also, I don’t think PR is that important if compared to a site’s traffic.
Of course, if the ban is on the site which will remove you completely from Google’s index, a reconsideration will be a must.
I just wonder if I sell text links myself? will it deduct the PR?
lukxiufung: the answer is maybe. There is a lot of people selling at forum and if you want to buy, you had to pm them for the link. People is trying to keep everything private now.
I remove TLA and ask did what you said. Now my blog became PR N/A…lol….. and my Firefox show that my blog have drop from PR 3 to 2 …lol….
lukxiufung: really???!??? I am seeing PR2, but I am guessing that you had more previously….I don’t understand
I echo everyone else:
PR IS NO GOOD IF YOU CAN’T MONETIZE IT!
[...] Popular Post Blogs with Top Commentators Wordpress plugin (310 Visits)Successfully withdraw Adsense Earning from Western Union (143 Visits)Remove Text Link and Request Reconsideration to gain PR (113 Visits) [...]
i think there is other method of monetizing the PR. Text ads may be a portion of most blogger income but it opens opportunity to look for more
Hi, thanks for sharing, i didn;t know that we can appeal one… ok will do that.
AhBoon: Hope to hear your success story
Tnx for you job!
It has very much helped me!
Adi, is not quite correct to state that “Google have made it firm and clear that anyone that sells text link will be penalize by having their PageRank (PR) deducted”.
Google even stated very clear that “Not all paid links violate our guidelines. Buying and selling links is a normal part of the economy of the web when done for advertising purposes, and not for manipulation of search results. Links purchased for advertising should be designated as such.”
You can find their policy regarding the paid links here:

Solo Ads: yup, it is not correctly stated….thanks for the update…
I think google should just penalise sites with too many ads, irregardless of where those ads are from
KY: i think it is hard to judge how many is too many. That is why google have limit its adsense block to 3..but can’t limit on how many advertising network you join
Who cares about PR anyway?
I agreee PR is Nothing!, I lost my PR when I am doing some experiment on building link and traffic
I am so depress when I lost my PR 4 at that time….
but strange things is my Alexa rank it goes up, more traffic coming from Google and My Income also Increase….
Thats why I think PR is nothing NOW, with PR 0 I got more traffic and Income.
its depend on some people. AS long as you manage to make money, its fine if you have lower PR. But the decision is yours..we still can make money with or without PR..
ehm, sometimes PR not really importang for some person. If you know how to make money from your blog without have good pagerank, what you need to do is just go do it and earn big!
Thanks, wondering why my pr dropped so bad, maybe it was using Text Link Brokers
