Forum with Wordpress

Posted by Adi Wong On January - 28 - 2009

Wordpress is a great piece of script, I have used tones of paid and free scripts to develop different kinds of website and I will always try to use Wordpress if it is possible. Recently I found out that it is posssible to have forum plugin using wordpress as a CMS. Simple Press is simply a Wordpress Plugin but it is filled with all the basic function needed to run a forum. I have not seen it used much, but I started installing it on one of my website and it will be launch soon.

Simple Press have all the needed function to run a proper forum, there is different user groups, filtration of words, simley, avatar, moderators,  and even the layout looks exactly like a forum. So far, it is great and it only lacks some function but they are not important for me.

There are few layout that comes with the plugin, it may not be sufficient for all users, but I am using one of the default wordpress forum layout.

Yup, you see it right, I am relaunching my NewlyWebsite and it will include forum. This is a glimse of the site, but it is yet to launch. NewlyWebsite is basically a website for New Websites to promote their fresh idea, for the first traffic, and a review. This is because we believe that all websites have to start somewhere. With this forum we could allow discussion and share our knowledge for a better World Wide Web.

Take a look at SimplePress.

It’s really simple to install and since it from the creators of WP it can’t be that bad :)

That is a pretty cool plugin. I just started playing around with the Wordpress e-commerce plugin earlier today. It is a similar type of plugin that virtually dominates Wordpress. The only downside is that it is really hard to come up with good templates. I have only been able to find a handful on the web and most of them cost between $50 – $150.

Mikael: I honestly did not know about bbpress…but after looking at it. It is what wordpress.org are using. I still prefer simple press because it look exactly like a forum like vbulletin, phpbb or mybb. Although it does not have the administrator panel.

Seo: it wasn’t up when you visited it, and now it is up. It is all about SEO friendly link, Simple Press uses similar style to the current wordpress permalink.

Classifieds/Blog/Impala/Ryan: give it a try, you may just find it usefull to add them to your current blog or for your future project.
