Unfollow People Not Following You on Twitter

Posted by Adi Wong On May - 4 - 2009

Once a while I tend to remove some twitter users whom I follow and at the same time do not follow me back. Of course I do have some of my own criteria and I don’t mind following someone who are providing me with great information on Twitter.

One of the easiest ways to unfollow people who are not following you on twitter is by using Twitter Karma. This is because Twitter Karma will simply search through your contact list, then list those who follow you, those who don’t and mutual followers. Then you could filter manually and when you are done, simply check “Bulk Unfollow”.

It is good to do some clean up when you are following too many people and you do not have much followers. It is important to maintain certain ratio so that people do not perceive you as a spammer who uses a computer to do mass following.

For new follower, I do use TweetLater to do vetting on users and my condition is also base on the ration someone is following compare to their followers. So remember to unfriend people who are not following you back on twitter, provided they are not active or their tweet they do is useless to you. I will explain about TweetLater  service next time.

    Hi

Every time I see something about Twitter it reminds me that I haven’t started using it yet. I’m still in the “waste of time” camp but it’s getting harder to justify this :)

I’ll bookmark this for the time when I finally take the plunge!

Neil: I think you should give it a try…i went for a boot camp and will never go to one again…they tend to teach you something that could be found online and the will spam you after the seminar for more of your money

  3. I want to know…there any professionals who can teach me about twitter.

The great thing about twitter is that this little bird does all the chirping for you. The problem is, it chirps too much!

Twitter Karma! Great name… looks like a good tool too. I’ve been using John Chow’s twitter follower, but that tool doesn’t let you pick and choose like this one. Thanks!

  6. Well, maybe someone that you follow is not actively using Twitter as their social platform. As my similar situation, I usually try to contact any member of Twitter to make a deal on following each other.

  9. Twitter Karma! Great name… looks like a good tool too. I’ve been using John Chow’s twitter follower, the great asset and the heritage.

Hm, this is unrelated, but why isn’t your contact form working? Said you need a captcha plugin or something. Can’t exactly send you anything when I myself can’t see the captcha i’m supposed to fill up.

  11. Adi Wong says:

Swifty: thanks man…taken away captcha for now..will add the plugin when i get home
