Moving to a Semi-Dedicated Hosting

Posted by Adi Wong On September - 14 - 2009

Been really busy recently and so ashame of myself of not writing anything here for so long, because it indicates that I did not learn any new things, new ideas or found any new tips & tricks recently. But nevertheless, I have move some of my domains to a new Semi-Dedicated hosting. I have been looking for a great semi-dedicated hosting for quite some time. The reason mainly because of financial side which I am more than comfortable to pay for hosting now.

I believe that I found one reliable webhosting company but it is too early to say, all I can say now is “So far so good”. This blog will not move so soon because I have paid for Hostgator for their 3 years plan and it is not that resource hungry as my other websites. My new hosting is with ServerFreak Hosting, they are a Malaysia hosting company, pretty reputable so far and their office is quite near to my house. Will come out with their service review once I tried them out for at least 3 months.

On the other hand, I have been spanding some time with my family, and taking pictures with my new DLSR.

Group Blogging Pays Off

Posted by Adi Wong On August - 21 - 2009

Previously  I have actually written about blogs that are manage by more than one person. The reason mainly because of time and wanted some variety in the posts. Currently it is doing pretty fine as we could get around $50/month, not much but I would say that it is pretty decent since we just spend like 2 hours each person each week. But the downside was that we only have two person blogging now. It was expected that some friends will give up or found out they do not like blogging.

Anyhow, it was nice that I found someone to share my interest and share my knowledge with and it generates new idea on how we could promote and increase our visitor. We manage to get 450+ visitor a day which is pretty good because it is quite a competative topic that we are blogging about. Not the best blog out there but pretty satisfied.

WordPress Theme Changed

Posted by Adi Wong On July - 16 - 2009

I had no choice to change to another theme quickly as my previous wordpress theme, Forte is actually not compatible with the latest wordpress 2.8 but I did not notice as I was too busy and had no time to even update this blog. Basically all comments are disabled, even though I have enable them in all my posts in post level and also settings.

Thanks to Lee who contacted me about this issue, I had to quickly change the theme as my troubleshooting shows that it is the problem with the theme and I could not identify the part of the code having problem, even having to replace the comment.php file with the wordpress default file does not work either.

I believe this new theme is working fine and I am pretty happy with the look, it is actually a magazine theme that I have edit it to look like a blog again. The only cons about this theme is the footer that is encrypted because they are affraid that we delete the credit to the theme developer. Anyhow I do not do that, previous footer stay intact for the whole priod, but having the footer I could add my stats there whereby the processing is done later, and visitor will not notice the lags.

My New WordPress Theme

Posted by Adi Wong On July - 10 - 2009

I have spend quite some time trying to make a new theme for my personal photoblog. It is a blog focusing a lot in my new hobby, photography. I am trying to make time for this new hobby of mine after I got my first DSLR, Nikon D90, it is just simply beautiful.

Got the idea of using only one rotating picture on my front page, but I do not want to keep it empty like other photoblog. Blog post only appears on the right sidebar. Due to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and navigation, I keep the category, my tweets and blogroll right at the bottom of the page so that they are not too obstructive.
