From my previous post about my WordPress journey, I have been selected, that was actually the easy part. Now the hard part is to win the voting system that I am way behind. Vote for me here.

So here is my giveback if I win the contest, yes, I will contribute back if you could help me out here. I will make a WordPress MU website for Malaysian whereby people could start their blog for free (I think I will get a .my domain to give a better localize url).

Then I will use USD100 for contests to giveaway as a promotion of this new community to make sure for its success. Not to mention the time that I am doing to devote here.

Also I will give out USD20 to a random person who voted for me and commented here. (yes, I can’t track them but if I win, I don’t mind giving, so comment on this post and continue to vote for me in your office, home, laptop, friend’s computer…wherever you can vote)

Then, I will give USD20 for a lucky blogger who posted a link to this post to support me in this contest. You can write a long post or a short post, and it is up to you.

Lastly, I will also share another USD20 for a lucky twitter who retweet my post for supporting me. You could copy the phrase below for simplicity or write anything that include @8dee

RT @8dee Give support and Vote for Riceblogger.com at http://bit.ly/3ya2Ew

Then the last tiny bits will be left for me any my family to enjoy a good meal.

All this will be given if I were to win the 1st prize. I am trying to aim big :) but if I do make it to other prizes, I will still try to contribute in a smaller amount. So vote for me here. (it takes less than 5 secs to do this)

Updated the Top 100 Malaysia Blogs List

Posted by Adi Wong On June - 23 - 2009

My Top 100 Malaysia Blogs list is now 2 months old and I have ran the updating script on Monday night. This is actually my second time updating the list and it seems pretty succesful. There is a chance that it fails to pick up the latest ranking from Technorati or Alexa ranking. In this case, it will use back its previous ranking. But I will try to update it as often as possible like every 2 weeks so that the data are updated (meaning at worst, the data is 2 weeks back).

Chinese Blogs

I have also included 2 first Chinese blog since their rankings are simply great. Unfortunately I could not display them in Chinese Character due to the database setting (I think) and I am trying to figure out methods I could change this. Duller and Xiawa.my are the two chinese blogs.

Other Rankings

I have receives request for other matrix to be included and currently my concentration is on google Page Rank to be included. This is given priority to others and will move on after that. Thanks to all who requested but note that each different ranking have different API to comply in order to get the information, and I will need to study them.

This list will constantly be updated base on the latest ranking, therefore it is quite accurate to say that these blogs definitely are very influential and are popular amongs Malaysian or even overseas visitors.

My Love for WordPress

I first use WordPress was on April 2005 (Wow, that was long and I don’t even remember that). Like any relationship it has its ups and downs, I stopped blogging for a while until I started again on September 2006 then it eventually diverted to Riceblogger as my favourite blog.

One important thing about wordpress is that it is not simply a blogging platform, but it is a CMS. With plugins, you can transform wordpress to a very powerful and SEO friendly website. For example, you can use wordpress as a Forum, as a social networking website, as a Membership Only Site, as a Review Site or simply a corporate website. This is how powerful WordPress script is.

Most importantly the enormous amount of free wordpress plugins and free wordpress themes that will cost you nothing to start a website/blog. The community running wordpress is large and contributors are doing a great job adding plugins and templates.

Not to forget that WordPress is actually making me some money for me and my family.

To be honest, I am writing this for a wordpress contest by wpwebhost as I think the prize money would help me out and other prizes would improve my experience in using the paid wordpress plugins for new projects. In the event that I am selected, I hope that I would get support from my readers. In return, if you need support when I am not selected but you are, feel free to drop me a comment here.

p/s How do you like the Rice + WordPress logo?

My Directory Got Spammed

Posted by Adi Wong On April - 18 - 2009

I have 2 directory, one using Php Link Directory and another using Php My Directory. Both are great scripts for directory but for different purpose and I bought license for them to be used in two saperate sites. Unfortunately due to porpularity and cheaper entry point for Php Link Directory. I am getting quite some amount of spam, not sure if there is a automated bot to submit to phplinkdirectory website.

Because the directory is intended for a Malaysia Directory, those sites are all invalid sites and I see a lot of it is WordPress site that still maintain a default “About Me” page.

Although in PhpMyDirectory I could do them in batch but it is still 20 at a time and I hope I did not delete some valid sites (actually I have found none).

Working round the clock

Posted by Adi Wong On April - 2 - 2009

I have been working round the clock for the very first time yesterday, yup 24 hours. It has been a busy week for my daily job due to meetings, daily work, plus external meetings, blogging, website exploration and much more time being with my family. I have not been able to pull off some of my project on hand. I hope to get it out very soon. Time to work harder and try to earn more at this economy downturn.

So far, <a href=”http://www.riceblogger.com/rice-blogger/i-am-going-to-finish-strong-on-march/”>it has pays off pretty well</a> and I hope that I will have residual income from this blog and other websites that I own in the future that I do not have to work that hard. I am not sure how long I would last but it is a tough time and any extra income will come in handy to help out my family.
