Nokia E72 keep restarting

Posted by Adi Wong On February - 3 - 2010

I got this phone 2 weeks already, it is a great phone as I have upgraded from a pretty lousy phone that I have used for almost 2 years. With the high expectation of getting a phone which could keep up with my online updates, I quickly install some great applications, but come to know that most of the resource hungry application or resource hungry websites actually make my new Nokia E72 restart. This happens without fail, so there is no chance at all for me to log into Nimbuzz, or even Meebo url will cause it to restart. Not to mention website like Facebook (non mobile) will do the same. I can’t tell you how many times my phone restarted….

Overall, I think that the qwerty keyboard and touch scrolling feature is simply great. Makes it look and feel like a blackberry. For a RM1,550, you are getting WiFi, qwerty keyboard, 3G with HSDPA connection speed, GPS (Garmin if you have the map), 5.2mp camera + second camera for 3G, and the mail application is such a great deal.

But the constant restarting of the phone is getting into my nerf, while I tried my friend E71 and they had no such problem. They are discussion about this E72 restarting issue at Nokia forum too.

Looking forward for firmware upgrade, which I heard European version is out, hopefully they fix this problem, or I am getting myself to the Nokia Service Center to bug them for a fix.

That’s not a good sign at all. You should have read a lot of reviews before getting the phone!

erm…actually the initial review is great..since this is a replacement for the great E71, I wasn’t expecting it to have more bug..

also I am buying it in a hurry as I had a rm1k coupon that is expiring…hehe….

but now I would not recommend this to anyone…even E71 would be a better buy

i’ve googled and found the solution for the E72 restarting problem.
The culprit is the “Font Magnifier”. Apparently i don’t like the large fonts and reduce it.. dunno why but it somehow caused the phone to restart whenever i tried to surf “Facebook”.

this is how you should do –> go to menu–> office –> font magnifier.
then, restore the default settings. Give it a try.. good luck!

You are right Adi, the review was good. I too was in a limbo couple of months back deciding upgrading my E71 to either E72 & N97 (ended up w N97 btw), I was cursing d tech gods for “influencing” me to get N97. I lost a lot of sleep time regretting for not choosing E72.

But now looks like you have d same initial as my N97. Hopefully d firmware upgrade can make your E72 experience better. It did for my N97.

As a previously satisfied Nokia user for 12 years, end of last year I purchased two E52’s. Constant problems, reboots regardless of firmware levels, and finally two phones, wasting my time with Nokia Care (who were useless), having wasted 200 hours trying to have the issues resolved through the retailer and consumer affairs and 5 months to get a full refund, I’m really wary about continuing with Nokia.

Did you know there is no way to actually raise a complaint with Nokia directly ? You can only go through the retailer or Nokia care (or hopeful that you’ll get a Nokia employee trawling the forums).

I have read many complaints/faults around the E72 (which was my next logical choice for a handset – I actually like the look and feel of the E52/E72 and S60 V3 FP2 – pity they don’t work reliably.

The E72 has similar problems to the E52 – reboots, hangs, dead phones, etc.

I really am loathed to buy another Nokia until their hardware, software and QA guys get their sh!t together.

Really disappointed Nokia have been pushing half baked products. It’s no wonder no carrier in Australia is supplying the handset range available to the rest of the world – probably because they have high rates of returns!

May you should go for iPhone or Blackberry..
